PRESS RELEASE JULY 2002
THE RECORD’ S NOW FAMOUS PHOTO OF 9/11, THREE FIREFIGHTERS RAISING THE AMERICAN FLAG ON THE RUINS OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER, UTILIZED FOR FIREFIGHTERS’ FUND RAISING PROJECTS.

Rochester Hills, MI – July 15, 2002: With the start of the Firehouse Expo, Baltimore, MD, July 16-21, 2002, introduction will be made to Firefighter Organizations across the USA of two commemorative, handcrafted sculptures representing the Courage, Strength, Endurance, Heroism, and Faith of the Firefighters and the American People. During the next 12 months, these two sculptures will be made available through Firefighter Fund Raising Projects throughout the USA.

A portion of the proceeds from Local Firefighter Organizations offering these sculptures during their Charity Fund Raising Projects will benefit local charities of their choice, which could raise thousands and thousands of dollars. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from each sale of this product benefits these charities: “The Bravest Fund” and the “North Jersey Media Group Disaster Relief Fund.” For more information, go to www. TheBravestFund.com and www. groundzerospirit.org.

The official licensed commemorative sculptures of the famous Photograph (c) 2001 The Record (Bergen County, N.J.), Thomas E. Franklin, Staff Photographer, will provide the public with the opportunity to obtain a piece of history reflecting the Unity of the American People. Offered by American Spirit Collectibles of Henderson, NV, each sculpture stands approx. 10” tall.

As this is a long range project available for firefighters’ fund raising projects over the next 3 years, the sculptures will become available to all Firefighter Charity Fund Raising Projects throughout the USA. The public may also secure one of these firefighter sculptures at www.americanspiritcollectibles.biz where they would be able to instruct which city or local Firefighter Organization they would like a portion of the proceeds to be sent.

These handcrafted sculptures are the latest licensed product approved by The Record and the three firefighters for distribution. Only products that meet strict quality standards and donate an approved percentage to designated charities are considered for licensing. As part of that fundraising effort, the group has licensed 15 products to date, proceeds of which have been applied to the funds. However, requests for thousands have been denied.

The Record and the firefighters long ago decided that the 9/11 Photograph should only be used to raise money for charity and not for commercial gain. Revenues raised from the sale of the commemorative and other licensed products are directed into the appropriate funds and the Photo, therefore, continues its mission of helping the area and nation heal from the September 11, 2001 disaster.
